We know little about these Rêveries Nocturnes. They were composed sometime between 1910 and 1911, but never published by Satie himself. The title ‘Deux Rêveries Nocturnes’ was given by Robert Caby, while preparing the posthumous publication of Satie’s inedited works. As for the music itself, it presents us with a serious, dissonant and very modern sounding Satie (much like the heartbroken Satie from Vexations, and yet more complex). This contrasts with other of his works dating from around 1910, when he was expanding his experimentations with musical irony.
