about

In 1872, at age six, Eric Alfred Leslie Satie started his first music lessons. By age twelve, he was admitted to the Conservatoire de Musique et de Déclamation in Paris, however considered a “quite insignificant pupil”. Finally, at age eighteen, he started to spell his name with a k – becoming Erik Satie. He then composed a very short piece called ‘Allegro’, only published after his death. Shortly after that, he wrote two beautiful waltzes: ‘Valse-Ballet’ and ‘Fantasie-Valse’, both composed in 1885 and published in 1887.
